Construction


Carvel planked. Original planks 1” 5/8 pitch pine, subsequent replacements in larch,
fastened with galvanised boat nails to double sawn 3” sided, 4” moulded oak frames
fastened in pairs at 17” centres.
Transom hung oak rudder, built in 2000 with galvanized gudgeons and pintles.
Tiller steering.
All internal iron ballast set in concrete.
Solid straight laid 2” Siberian larch deck fastened with galvanised spikes, caulked and
payed with Jeffreys Marine Glue laid new in 2023, fastened to oak deck beams, new in
2004, 4’ and 5’ sided.
Douglas fir capping rail on 19” bulwark all round set on oak stanchions. All new deck
and covering boards 2023.
Coachroof painted 2” Douglas fir, dovetailed in the corners, set on purple heart
coamings, through bolted at every 21” with 17mm galvanised bolts with 7 bronze
portlights in total, 4 fixed and 3 opening. Companion way offset and sliding hatch in
Burmese teak. Butterfly skylight in Burmese teak, double glazed with toughened and
laminated glass with bronze fittings and brass protective bars. Coachroof deck is
beaded and painted pine boards overlaid with plywood and glass fibre.
Wheelhouse painted 2” Douglas fir, dovetailed in the corners, set on purple heart
coamings, through bolted at every 21” with 17mm galvanised bolts. All round vision
through toughened glass port lights.


Rig

 

Three masted standing lug rig. All standing rigging new 2008 and most recent overhaul
2024. Mostly new running rigging 2024.
Main mast and foremast are keel stepped solid Douglas fir.
12mm galvanised wire standing rigging (6 x 7) parcelled and served, leathered soft eyes
with seizings, dead eyes and lanyards.
External galvanised chain plates new in 2008.
Loose footed mainsail laced to 6.5 metre Douglas fir yard. Yard halyard is 8mm stainless
wire through masthead sheath to 5:1 tackle and 3:1 peak halyard.
Mizzen mast is pitch pine, stepped in tabernacle bridging the transom. Loose footed
lug mizzen sail with an oiled yard and lifting outrigger.
Lifting bowsprit pitch pine with galvanised whisker stays and tackle.
All spars oiled with white painted tops.
Main mast: 47’/14.3m overall length; 38’/11.5m heel to hounds; 280mm diameter (at
deck)
Foremast: 35’5”/10.8m overall length; 31’5”/9.6m heel to hounds; 225mm diameter (at
deck)
Mizzen: 21’4”/6.5m overall length; 17’8”/5.4m heel to hounds; 140mm diameter (at
base). Stepped in galvanised tabernacle on transom
Bowsprit: 28’3”/8.6m total length; 19’6”/5.9m outboard length
Running back stays with hook and gun tackle purchase.
Jib run to the bowsprit end on a traveller, hanked to wire luff to halyard (Dyarchy style).
Mainsail (2008 recut Dacron), foresail (new Duradon 2008), jib (new Duradon 2008),
mizzen (Dacron).

Machinery

 

Ford Dorset 120hp 6 cylinder diesel engine 1975. Bowman marinisation. Top end
complete overhaul 2023. New oil cooler and exhaust. Recent head gasket, new valves,
seats, injector service. New Bowman oil cooler, exhaust.
Gearbox Coventry switch gear, 4.2:1, 3”/75mm stainless shaft.
Single lever controls to an offset fixed 36” 4 blade bronze propeller, gives 6 knots
cruising speed.
2 x 150 litre stainless steel fuel tanks in stern.
2 x 140Ah batteries for domestics and separate 2 x 140Ah batteries for engine starting.
Charged from the engine alternator.
4 batteries located in wheelhouse
Installed shore power system
2 manual and 3 electric bilge pumps.

8 berths in 4 cabins, plus 2 additional pilot berths and 2 saloon berths.

Good headroom throughout.
Two main access points to below deck plus large fo’c’sle and midship hatches. Access to
saloon via companion way steps through sliding coachroof hatch. U-shaped galley to
port with solid teak worktops. Belfast sink with 3 taps: pressurised fresh water from
brass tap (Jabsco Par Max 2.9 pump), hand pumped filtered drinking water (Shurflo
Waterguard filtration system), Whale foot pump for seawater. Sink waste water
discharged directly overboard with Whale hand pump with diverter valve as back-up
bilge pump.
Bainbridge Neptune gas stove with 2 burners, grill and oven. Good storage facilities in
galley. 40 litre 24v isotherm refrigeration unit.
Very comfortable saloon with solid fuel stove on hand carved Kilkenny limestone base.
Fixed solid oak saloon table.
New foam seating covered in Turkish fabric. Seating for 12.
Butterfly skylight in coachroof above providing light and ventilation.
Large storage lockers beneath seating. Extensive shelving.
Oiled pine floor throughout.


Wheelhouse

 

Wheelhouse is accessed through sliding hatch with doors from aft.
Helmsperson has view of all instruments. Engine morse controls and VHF radio are sited
conveniently to starboard, and binoculars and hand held compass within reach to port.
Descending four steps and standing inside there is all-round view through 7 portlights.
One large 10” opening portlight facing forward allows good communication and
ventilation from full size chart table to crew on foredeck.
Electric switch panels are fitted to watertight boxes mounted aft.
Battery isolater switches and solar charge controllers are just below at waist height.
Emergency flare box and grab bags stowed under steps.
Batteries are in lined box to starboard and shore power RCD box and invertor are sited
just behind below chart folio storage shelf.
Admiralty charts are stored in indexed PVC tubes in starboard quarter.
Pilot berth is on portside with storage under.
Main compass is mounted on shelf above chart table and second VHF is to s/b above
chart table with red lens chart light under .
Helmsperson uses second compass mounted on wheelhouse top to s/b of sliding hatch.


Heads

 

Located port forward with a manual Jabsco sea toilet that discharges directly overboard,
with optional 40 litre holding tank. Ceramic hand basin in marble top, stainless taps with
shelving behind. Shower tray with teak grating, waste water to sump box discharged
overboard. Note: there is some fitting out and plumbing work to be completed.

 

Focsle

 

On port side is double chain locker, storage behind for two grab bags of “ready to run”
flaked line, approx. 100m of 12mm polyprop and 70m of 19mm Octoplait.
Work bench with shelving behind and drawers under.
To starboard 3 full length storage shelves (top could be used as another berth).
Centre fwd is rack for outboard and space fwd to mast for fenders.
